House Bouwer, Tredenham, Bloemfontein

This house is in an Estate just on the outskirts of Bloemfontein. The guidelines called for a 70% pitch roof and 30% flat roof. The main living spaces were all placed towards the view and north while the service spaces were all placed in the flat roofed southern box. Due to the slope on the site, the concept was to arrive at the upper southern end of the cul-de-sac where the garages would be located. From here the inhabitants can access the house directly via a bridge into the house (upper level) while visitors walk down an entrance gallery down to the living room level. Local stone was combined with the rendered walls and a composite timber exterior.
